Magrelli on Graffiti

May 27, 2006

"Graffiti"

Where does this foetal, feral language

come from, with its shimmering

alpha-numerical tags?

Who speaks this spray-on Esperanto

of walls, trams and entry-phones?

What is it telling us

this crackly static tongue

that calls from the deep?

-Valerio Magrelli

The Run Up is volume two in the DVD series; Volume three will begin production in the spring of 2007.

According to Roberts, “This film is a platform for artists to display their personal thoughts and creative philosophies. The stylistic choices made during production of this project are representative of the artists’ story.”

The Run Up is composed of one-on-one interviews with each artist and depicts their personal journeys in finding their artistic styles as well as creating a space for each of them within the art world. Additionally, The Run Up is one hundred percent independently produced, an achievement that Roberts is most proud about. “It was an honor to be able to work with such a diverse group of talented people. It has been such a rich learning experience and I hope that the final product will serve to inspire and illuminate,” says Roberts.
